Peterchurch Show - Ledbury MCC

My first trip to a Ledbury Meeting and hopefully not my last this year! About 3 hours of driving got me to an empty field at midday, I had of course been expected at least some trouble with Bank Holiday traffic! Still after a quick rest in the car people started to arrive and things got moving. Congratulations to Tim Nobes, pictured left finding extra grip in the corner, for coming first in the 500cc Solo Class. Unfortunately there was only one accident involving 2 500cc Sidecars. I wish all involved a speedy recovery.

Swindon Youth - The first time I have managed to get to Swindon Youth Grasstrack this year. What a fabulous day it was as well. Sunny and warm and some excellent racing, showing that in a few years we will have some very good adult riders!! So watch out everyone else!

Smallbrook Spectacular - Grasstrack Riders joining up this year with Motocross and Speedway riders for the spectacular charity meeting on the isle of wight. Grasstrack Ride of the day must go to Andy Downes, after starting poorly he was in third and chasing Phil Spencer hard, but on the third lap the Phil went wide not knowing that Andy was on his outside, somehow Andy managed to miss the fence and drive round the outside of Phil to collect Second.

Pictured above Birthday Boy Wayne Read giving it everything off the line

SCGTRA - The Third and Final round for the Southern Centre Grasstrack Club, but also the Southern Centre Championships. So lots of people wanting both points for the club championship but also the win tom make them 2005 Southern Centre Champion. Unfortunately we had a couple of little hiccups in the early part of racing, firstly with Paul Crawford who currently isn't quite sure what happening but missed the racing from 7 to 17?? and secondly Robert Mear, after having an previous fall came out in the second round of the heats and somehow hit the back of David Durham sending his arm down the back of the wheel, where it remained trapped! For the first time in my 3 years of Grasstrack we saw the Fire Brigade tirn up to assist with releaseing Robert from the mess of bikes. Thankfully he is OK having suffered a broken arm. That aside and the small amount of rain the racing was superb.

SWeGA - Another visit to the superb track at Thorverton. Some fantastic action in the racing and a real night mare for me in the pits!! Power again reared its ugly head. Having replaced the inverter in the car to accommodate the new Digital Mini Lab printer, what happens! Well nothing to be precise! So special thanks goes to the Ritching Clan that leant me their Generator for the day, and waited around after the meeting whilst I printed photos! If you would like a photo it couldn't be simpler, just pick up the phone and give me a call or send me an email, all prints are despatched next working day. All prints come with an invoice which can be paid by cheque by return post.

Services Update - Starting at SWeGA I will have a Digital Mini Lab for Trackside printing as well as my normal printers, this will enable me to offer 8" x 6" photos, which will compliment the standard prints I currently do, these will be priced at £3 ea. These digital prints are waterproof and more hard wearing than one of my standard prints.

I will also be adding this to the off track service and including 6" x 4" prints to my price list which has just been updated to reflect these changes. Click Here for my price List

In addition to this I have also now got my own programme printing facilities. I can normally turn around 500 programmes in apx 3-4 days. Typical programme would be full edge to edge full colour / photographic cover with black and white insides including sponsors and additional track racing photos. If you would like more details or a sample programme then please email mike@mikegordonphotography.co.uk or give me a call out of office hours on 07766 444470

TWINS - Ok decided that it wasn't a good idea to post pictures of babies on the internet, but pictured left is me at the birth of my Twin Daughters, Amelia born 11.29 13/07/05 and weighing 7lb 11oz and Jasmine born 8 minutes later at 11.37 and weighing 6lb 12oz....Everything went according to plan and hopefully my wife and twins will be home shortly after the weekend!

Now its just a case of sorting out the Calender to ensure that I can still get to a Grasstrack every weekend!!

SCGTRA - Southern Centre Grasstrack Riders Charity meeting and a six lap final for 500cc solos. Weather was not ideal even though the forecast was for a dry day and wet evening. Naomi House Childrens Hospice were presented with a cheque for £500 on the day and Matt Ford presented the trophies.

Personal Update, Some of you know that my wife is expecting Twins, well they will be delivered no later than Wednesday next week (13th July), this means that I will not be able to make Swindon Solo on the 10th July and neither will I make Cornwall on the 17th, so it looks like my next meeting will be SWeGA on the 31st July.

Calender updated, I have moved the interactive Calender from Grasstrack Review to this site.

Motorcycle World - The motorcycling centre of the universe, well at least for this weekend. Sorry for the delay in getting these photos on, have had loads to do and not enough time. 1243 photos taken from last weekend, which I have now finally sorted into categories. Pictured left Jean Pierre Goy in the main Arena Saturday! Fanstastic Stuff!! and below the hard working Beaulieu / Danebury Grasstrack team that put the racing show on for all to see. I was going to place the photo of Kev Akers on Phil Syms Sidecar or not as it happened, but for that one you'll have to look in the gallery.

Photography Awards Update - Pictured left is 'Finca La Majadilla' the photo is called 'reflected sunrise'. It was entered into the Southampton Camera Club's print competition last night and won a 'Seal of Merit'.

The house is the home of BikEspana, the riders Paradise in the heart of Andalucia. Click Here to view their brochure, and click the photo to get an enlargement.

BikEspana will shortly be launching their brand new website so check back here for the Launch News.

Swindon Solo Grasstrack - With 110 Riders and 63 races and a Weather forecast of dry and sunny, it looked like Swindon had perfect conditions.

The Racing was as always superb, and with a little bump coming out of the pit corner it made for some impressive photos as riders went faster and faster. Click out the Gallery as there is a Photo of Tim Nobes in the air, No wheels on the ground! Hopefully I have created the Galleries correctly, any problems give me a shout!

Thankfully all racing was completed with only 1 casualty, Anthony Power (32) so I wish him a speedy recovery if required.

Well done Swindon!!! An Excellent Day!!

Well done Wimbourne, Well done riders for supporting them under difficult conditions. Pictured right Lewis Denham heading to Victory in the Final and Above Kev Styles with Barry Woodruff keeping a brave face in muddy conditions.

Jim Coles Spectacular Grasstrack - Wet Wimbourne! Firstly well done to wimbourne, the track was looking great, shame about the rain which started part the way through practice. Congratulations to those that rode in very difficult conditions. Perhaps one of the stars of the day was Lewis Denham, who broke down in the first race and then in his third race fell off twice and still managed a fourth, putting him through into the B Final, which had Steve Gale as leading points scorer. He lead from the start putting him though to the A final and again showed his excellent form pulling of the A final win as well.!!

Firstly sorry for a late posting of photos from last weekend, and secondly sorry for having to leave SWEGA earlier than the end. As some of you know I had to go to Dubai on Tuesday morning and came back Thursday Morning. This left me so tired that even though I tried I could not complete the posting of photos last night. So here they all are now!!!!

Cornwall Solo Grasstrack - Another fine day down in Cornwall and some very close racing. Pictured Left Gaving Horsbough.

SWEGA Grasstrack - Well the Cornwall close racing continued at the SWEGA meeting, on what must have been the most superbly presented Grasstrack I have seen this year. Unfortunately the close racing ended in the sidecars when Ricky McAuley was hit by Clive Stoneman, leaving Phil Stoneman needing airlifting to hospital. Thankfully the SWEGA organisers moved swiftly and with the excellent help of St. Johns Phil was very quickly whisked away to be checked over. Thankfully he is OK. Pictured left the amazing Tim Nobes leading Wayne Barrett and Lewis Denham

SCGTRA Grasstrack - 15th May saw the Southern Centre Grasstrack Riders association open their season with a whopping 150 rider line up and a lovely hot sunny day as well! Track was in good condition although quite hard, despite the rain the previous day.

Pictured left Shaun Harvey and Danny Hogg during practice, Danny obviously having far too much of an easy ride! This performance even continued during racing!

Don't forget that you can click any image on the gallery page to enlarge it!!

Bristol Grasstrack - Speedy update tonight, got to go to Newcastle over the next 2 days via Coventry and Sheffield, so thought I would try and get the update done tonight before I go. So please excuse any mistakes!

Bristol meeting, early rain had me worried but thankfully it came to nothing. Racing was exceptional with some excellent racing in all classes.

Pictured left, Luke Atwell taking an interesting line down the back straight!!

Swindon Grasstrack - Always a favourite of mine, a very well run club that always puts on fantastic meetings. Shorter than normal track, which proved to much for some but still left some excellent close racing and a few different faces winning.

Weather was fantastic although I heard that over night there was some substaincial rain and thunder. My head is glowing red after 2 days Grasstrack. Swindon followed by Berks Bonanza, whilst not allowed to photograph at the Berks the racing and beer went down a treat!

Worcester Grasstrack - My first trip up to Worcester, hopefully not my last. Strange to see a car boot sale right next door to a Grasstrack Meeting. Track was in really good shape up till the rain started and then well it got wet and slippery and a few people came off! Including Tim Nobes. Nick Beasley had a little tumble in the 350's after hitting Paul Derrick, thankfully they were both OK.

The Helmet video camera also had another outing and got its first mud bath! Having now had the time to play back the footage it managed about 10 seconds in the final. I will however post some of the footage from the earlier races later!

Bristol Grasstrack On arrival at the bristol meeting it was very apparent by the stricken vans that the field was a little on the wet side. So the first part of the morning was towing vans into the pits, unfortunately for Steve Leigh his van was so deep in the mud that not even my 4x4 could pull it out. Still the track area was less wet than the pits which seemed to be good. With 60 scheduled races we needed all the good weather we could muster. And with that the sun came out and dried the track out even more!! Racing was excellent with Jamie Rodgers (pictured left) showing all the way to do it until his chain came of and so did he! Well done Bristol, they completed about 56 races before 5pm..

HELMET VIDEO FOOTAGE AVAILABLE NOW BY CLICKING HERE

Somerton Grasstrack - This has got to have been the best Somerton meeting I have been to. 55 races seemed to be a tall order for the day, but no, smooth effective marshalling and pits gave an enoyable day and not even a late finish, and even though the entry for 1000cc sidecars was a little lower than many events the quality of racing was just as good. My helmet camera also went out for its first trial run, in the very capable hands of Tim Nobes and then followed by Kev Colborne passengering Tim Warren's 1000cc Sidecar outfit. I will hopefully be posting some video footage but at the moment the file sizes are way to big!! (40mb per race for those that understand)

Declan Ritchings pictured left after winning a head to head scrap with Matt Gurd. Both riders were having an excellent days racing

Southern Centre Presentation Evening - Late opps!!

Later then was originally intended the pictures of the Southern Centre Grasstrack Riders Association presentation evening. Show left a picture of the spectacular Pete Langran (500cc Sidecar). Did the black eye come from another accident yes of course, but not on the bike, fell down the cellar at the pub!!

What a corker!

Wimbourne Practice Day @ Weymouth Speedway Track.

A lovely sunny but extremely cold day for the practice session at Weymouth. There were quite a few riders and 500cc sidecars that battled with the cold to get to Weymouth, but overall it was a good day specially when the sun came out and the wind dropped.

Pictured left Mike Read and passenger James who's goal must have been to see if he could touch his head on the ground!

New for 2005

I have been trying for just over a year to get a low cost, high quality, helmet video camera system up and running. Towards the end of last year I figured a way of hooking up my portable digital picture viewer to a bullet camera. The picture viewer is capable of recording footage digitally, no tapes, no hassle!! well hopefully!!

I will be taking delivery of the miniture video camera shortly and will be spending some time sorting out suitable mounts for both frame and helmet applications. The system will be capable of video and sound recording and will fit into a very small rucksack which will need to be worn by the rider or passenger.

UPDATED

The full 2004 Gallery is complete.

Well after many hours of sat in front of the computer I have completed the full gallery, Month by Month, Event by Event and Class by Class. I am not sure how many photos are in the galleries but I would expect it to be near 35,000.

Please bear in mind that the photos shown in these galleries have not been colour corrected, cropped or modified in anyway and do not really represent the final printed image. I have included every image I have taken so please bear in mind some of them are out of focus and indeed some are just plain rubbish, but I haven't got the heart to delete them as yet.

The next step is to sort out some of my Landscape and other motorsport photos and create some galleries of those.

For now enjoy the largest collection of grasstrack photos anywhere online!!! Click Here to Start

Sittingbourne Ok so what happens at the end of the grasstrack season, most people put their bikes away for the winter or do that little bit of work they should have done months ago. Not the case for 15 people on friday, sittingbourne speedway track was the venue and enjoyment was the order of the day. The weather was about right for a December day, bloody cold but at least it was dry.

So let me ask you another question how far would you drive to have a blast on your bike out of season? Bristol to Sittingbourne? Wow some serious dedication....!

Pictured left - Kev Beer - To find out why he is in such a good mood you will have to read my report on Grasstrackreview.com

Swindon, Wimborne and SWEGA Presentations, OK later than planned here's the photos from the presentation evenings. A chance for all to let there hair down have a drink and chat about the years racing, Rick McAuley took that a stage further at the Swindon presentation evening and did a 1 man striptease on the dance floor. Alas I was not fast enough with the camera to get a shot! The Swega presentation a couple of weeks later was where that changed. I am not going to say any more other than it was dark, they shouted take a photo, the flash went off and I suddenly realised what I had photographed! - PAGE 3 SWEGA

Guernsey Beach Race Photos - Having reached both the end of the 2004 Grasstrack season and 10 years of marriage it was time for me to have a Holiday, first one this year! As part of our Honeymoon we spent some time on Guernsey, so we decided to go back and have a long weekend. What a suprise they had a motor racing event on, on the day we were coming home. Thankfully my Wife let me go and watch and take some photos. If you click on the blue text above it will take you to a Gallery of Photos from the first 5 heats of racing.

Oh and Yes that is an Espace! - Normally at home with 5 Kids and 2 adults inside!

If time permits I will add a small Gallery of the Best shots from our Long Weekend.

Looking for a Holiday with a difference?

Terry West, well know in the Grasstrack community owns the villa pictured left. It is situated in the Mountains in Andalucia. He and Perle have started a Motorcycle Adventure Holiday Venue.

Grasstrack Update - Cornwall Solo - I really enjoy going down to the Cornwall Grasstrack meetings. OK so its a long drive (8 hour round trip) but you know that it's one of the most scenic drives you will make in the year and also that you will always find a freindly welcoming group of people.

Anyway, wet was the order of the day....Nothing fell out the sky, just wet from the weeks worth of rain leading up to race day. I have added all the photos including the difficult to tell who he was, too muddy pictures.

Grasstrack Update - Danebury Grasstrack - I will be brief today as time is running out this evening and I have a million things to do.

I have posted all the photos I took at the weekend, including those where things went a little wrong! So if you want one and it looks a little bit strange let me know and I will tell you if it was on the crap list!!

Excellent racing though on a magnificent track! How much work went into that? I bet it must have been months....Congrats to the Danebury club for a superb effort. Also thanks to Gareth Bemisters Girlfriend for helping me complete the amazing task of printing 9 photos and mounting between the end of racing and the presentation.

Don't forget to check the Danebury Website out....

Grasstrack Update - Somerset Star - Congratulations to the Wyvern Moto Club for an Excellent weekend of racing. Its a shame the wet weather came to visit on Sunday, had it been dry I think we would have had some of the best racing of the year as the track was in perfect condition.

I have spoken with Pete Shaw and he tells me he is fine! after this interesting roll!

I have already updated Wyvern's Website if you are interested in reading the report before it gets to Grasstrack Review.

Grasstrack Update - Bridgwater, Hell of a meeting, some very close racing in all classes and the weather held as well.

Photos as normal have been arranged in galleries: Solos, Youth, Sidecars and Practice.

Please also note that me camera reset its counter and the automatic web page creater has put the images in number order, so in some galleries the last races of the day are at the start and then followed by the first races! Confused?

An Evening with Lew Coffin - A couple of pictures of the afternoon and evenings entertainment.

SCGTRA Present a cheque to Naomi House - Mathew and Steve Gurd, Andy Downes, Chris Sparks and myself went to Naomi House on Saturday Morning. They had an Open Day and we had a cheque for £700 which was raised from the SCGTRA Grasstrack meeting held on the 4th July. In addition to this cheque they raised between £200 and £300 on the day making a massive near £1000 raised. Unfortunately no where near to the funds required to run the Childrens Hospice. We were then treated to a guided tour around the facility, which I would like to add is an impressive place and caters for not only terminally ill children but their families.

Please take a look at their Website - www.naomihouse.org.uk
